Choosing the right therapist is vital to your healing.
I encourage all clients to meet or speak with several therapists to see who is the best ‘fit’. When you feel it, you’ll know.
I have been working in the field of helping and healing for over 15 years, 10 of which I have been practicing registered clinical counselling. This work is natural and intuitive for me, but it is also constantly informed by new research and methods for healing and change to make my work effective and successful for you. I offer deep inner personal work to understand and overcome the conditioning and experiences of our past that influence our present realities. This work facilitates release of old patterns (both individual and intergenerational) to empower ourselves to live a life we desire in the present.
I commit to bringing my authentic self to our counselling relationship so that your experience is rooted in genuineness instead of traditional therapy prone to aloofness, unfeeling and superiority. I show up with sincerity and I like to use humour, honesty and collaboration in the counselling room. My experience and research thus far shows that this approach enhances a client’s success in therapy.
You will find that I am a fairly ‘directive’ therapist, because I believe it is my job to guide you in the healing process. This can involve psychoeducation, teaching, experiential learning and practice, as well as guided and open exploration.
I hold an intersectional feminist and anti-racist worldview that informs my therapeutic conceptualization of ‘the problem’, ‘the disorder’, and ‘the solution’. I believe part of my role professionally, vocationally and as a community member, is contribute to the deconstruction of racist, patriarchal and systemic hierarchies of power and control. These associated attitudes and beliefs permeate just about everything that has influenced us - including my own professional field of Psychology - and the harmful impact is remarkable. I will safely and respectfully assist you in identifying and deconstructing this impact and assisting you as you reconstruct your foundations of Self. I have witnessed that this necessary work is wholly freeing for ALL individuals.
I commit to the lifelong journey of anti-racist learning, of anti-racist self-reflection, of my own therapy, of clinical supervision, and of the work that will continue to invite me to my own evolution.
I hold a Masters Degree in Counselling Psychology (Adler University) and I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (#13918) with the BCACC. I also have specific training in Occupationally Aware therapy for First Responders, in Gottman Method Couples Therapy, trauma, complex-trauma and PTSD, intimate partner violence and abuse, IFS parts work for complex trauma and Dissociative Identity Disorder, LGBTQ+ affirming therapy.
